Happy "End of the School Year" to everyone! As the summer approaches, I would like to remind you of a few things. Here's the list:

March Newsletter

Welcome to March!...Oh, wait...it's almost over! Yikes!

Here is your March Newsletter. Though there's not much happening this month, I needed to send you some important notes and UPCOMING dates so you can begin planning ahead and writing a few things down on your calendars....

NOTE: NO SPRING RECITAL!Students and Parents, I must announce that I will NOT be hosting a recital this season. Many of you already have outside performances and productions of your own that you will be heavily committed to (which is great!).

Spring is a busy time of year for performances of all kinds (musicals, cheer, dance teams, club volleyball, tennis, even the ACT test!), and as such, I would like to start holding annual recitals, only at the end of every October. BUT, I will be encouraging those of you who do NOT have a vocal performance or audition opportunity of your own for this spring/summer...to FIND one!!!

I believe that this will be a wonderful way for you to celebrate your own unique goals and individual strengths (that you have refined over the course of my teaching). I will be following through with each of you privately, making special efforts to ensure that your private voice lessons are not lacking in performance coaching. Need ideas? You can look for auditions, contests, and performance opportunities on my website: patriciasueharper.com!

April 1st—6th: ALPINE DISTRICT SPRING BREAK
Despite the school break, I WILL be teaching regular lessons during these dates. If you will be unable to attend your regular lesson during this week, please schedule a make-up lesson.

April 29th—May 4th: NO LESSONS!
I will NOT be teaching regular lessons during these dates, as I will be out of town. Please schedule a make-up lesson if your regular lesson falls during these dates.

May 24th - 27th: MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
Despite the school break, I WILL be teaching regular lessons during the Memorial Day weekend. If you will be unable to attend your regular lesson, please schedule a make-up lesson.
June 3rd—8th: SUMMER SCHEDULE BEGINS
If you would like to continue lessons throughout the summer, please let me know, and coordinate a summer lesson schedule with me BEFORE this week!

July 13th: LAST DAY OF LESSONS
I will be packing up my house and moving to Richmond, Virginia throughout the last half of July. As such, I will NOT be committing any of you to a Summer Season Contract. For those of you who are interested, I will be teaching throughout the summer, from June 3rd until July 13th. During those 6 weeks, I will be charging tuition on a "per lesson" basis.Feel free to schedule any number of lessons with me during that time. I am going to miss you all so much!!!

All adult roles are currently available; auditions for children’s roles in the production were held previously. All auditioners at this audition must be 18 or older.

According to the Actors’ Equity Broadway production breakdown, there are three adult principal roles, six featured chorus roles, and several other chorus/ensemble roles. These auditions are for all adult roles. The following is a breakdown of adult principal and featured chorus roles.

PRINCIPAL ROLES

JEAN VALJEAN: Tenor. Ages from mid-thirties to early fifties over the course of the play (1815-1832) - but life and events “age” him even more than do the years. Highly intelligent. Deep emotional and spiritual resources. Hunted and driven by the law, but equally driven by a deep moral conviction to do right. A man of enormous physical, emotional and moral strength.

INSPECTOR JAVERT: Baritone. Ages from mid-thirties to late forties/early fifties over course of play. Highly intelligent. Cunning and clever. Emotional scars have left him rigid and un-bending. The need to serve “justice” has turned into obsession, which he ultimately realizes.

FANTINE (Doubles as “Street Urchin.”): Mezzo-Soprano. Twenties. A beauty both angelic and sensual - but ravaged by poverty, misfortune, degradation and tuberculosis. Deep emotional resources and unwavering love for and commitment to her daughter.

FEATURED CHORUS ROLES

COSETTE: Soprano. Early Twenties. Beautiful, innocent, intelligent. A pure heart and a pure soul at the moment of self-discovery and the discovery of love.

THÉNARDIER: Baritone. Ages from mid-thirties to late forties/early fifties over course of play. Conniving, greedy, vicious, without ethics or scruples. Dangerous. Unctuous when it suits his purposes, rapacious when the mask is down. Has comic moments but a big mistake to play into that. There is nothing “cute” about him.

MME. THÉRNARDIER: Alto. Ages from mid-thirties to late forties/early fifties over course of play. Mean spirited, conniving, greedy, cruel. Utterly without ethics or scruples and therefore assumes no one else is capable of them, either. A perfect match for her husband.

EPONINE: Mezzo-Soprano. Early twenties. Street smart. Tough. Savvy. Strong. A good, true and ultimately courageous heart.

ENJOLRAS: Bari/tenor. Twenties to early thirties. Leader of the student revolutionaries. Charismatic, fiery, a true leader.

MARIUS: Bari/tenor. Twenties. Good-looking leading man. A member of the student revolutionary group - but at heart a poet, a dreamer and a romantic.

All other ensemble roles will be assigned “as cast.”

The fall season is quickly approaching! Here's what you need to know....

First off...my address has now changed. We have moved our little family into my parents' basement apartment, located in Orem. Please contact me, if you need the address, or directions. Also, my parents are planning to sell their home and move to Cedar Hills, hopefully, by the beginning of September, if all goes well. But, until then, I will be teaching, at their current home in Orem. There is a seperate entrance to the basement apartment on the West side of their home. Please use that entrance when you come for your private lessons each week.

Thank you for you flexibility during these big changes! I really appreciate all of you, for your support and understanding. You have all been wonderful.

Lastly, here are some important dates coming up you may want to write down on your calendars....

I Am Moving!

Students and Parents,

Just wanted to let you know that my house is currently under contract, to be sold. We are scheduled to close the deal on the 31st of July. This means that there is a very high chance that I will be relocating my family to Cedar Hills, in Utah County, on Saturday, July 28th. We are planning to live in my parents' basement for about 10 - 13 months. After which, we will move our family out-of-state, so that my husband can begin his intented graduate program.

As such, I am NOT planning to teach regular lessons during the weekend of July 28th. I'll be busy packing up my house! So, if your regular lesson falls during any of those dates, please schedule a make-up lesson.

As for the next 10 - 13 months, I am continuing to teach regular lessons, as usual, from home. Cedar Hills will be a much more convenient location for my students who are currently driving to Salt Lake from Utah County to attend private lessons. Although, for many of you, who are living in the Salt Lake area, this will be a very inconvenient change for you.

If this news affects your ability to maintain your current voice lesson schedule, during the rest of the summer and/or upcoming school-year, please let me know as soon as possible.

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer!

Thanks,

Patricia
