SCERA auditions for Disney musical "My Son Pinocchio" on Feb. 16 - 17
SCERA is holding auditions for the final stage production of its indoor season – Disney’s “My Son Pinocchio” – on Thursday, February 16 and Friday, February 17, 2012 from 7-10pm at the SCERA Center for the Arts, 745 South State, Orem.
Auditioners should prepare to sing 16 measure of a Broadway-style song. Families are encouraged to audition together. Children 9 and under will only be cast with an adult family member. Gymnasts, dancers, jugglers, roller skaters, stilt walkers, or any odd or interesting talents are also needed. CD and IPOD playback is available or you may bring your own accompanist. No appointment is necessary to audition. Those invited to callbacks on Saturday, February 18 will participate in a dance audition.
Mindy B. Young will direct and choreograph, and Jeremy Showgren will music direct.
“My Son Pinocchio” will be performed on the Showhouse II stage at the SCERA Center for the Arts April 20 – May 12 on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30pm.
Disney brings their musical theatre magic to the classic tale of an aging toymaker and his puppet. It’s the well-known story, complete with the beloved classics “When You Wish Upon A Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings,” but given even more charm with a score of original songs from Grammy Award-winning composer Stephen Schwartz. With a lively cast of characters, this smart, witty and sophisticated family show is a delightful mix of heartwarming fairytale and action-packed adventure, as audiences follow Pinocchio’s journey from awkward woken puppet to a real, live boy and Gepetto’s transformation from demanding creator to a real, live father.
For more information, contact SCERA at (801) 225-ARTS.

Recital Feedback Welcome!
Dear students,
I just wanted to say "Thank You" for the hard work you invested in our recent winter recital. It was a success, and I hope that each of you felt like you were able to gain something from your performing experience.
As the new year has begun, I have already begun to plan our upcoming Spring Recital. I have strong desires to provide for you a free, yet positive, and professional recital experience during every season, and am always looking for new and improved ways in which to do that.
Here's a list of ideas I have thought of for our Spring Recital so far:
- Do away with frequent microphone adjustments! I can do this by investing in two wireless microphones (and stands), so that other microphones can be "pre-set" for performers who are using the piano and/or guitar.
- Shorten the length of the recital! I can do this by allowing each performer to sing one song, rather than two.
- Improve not only the sound quality, but also the overall "flow" of the recital! I can do this by hiring someone to run the mixing board for me, who can adjust microphone levels, and stay on top of the music tracks, more efficiently.
If there are any ideas or suggestions you, or your parents, may have in addition to this list, will you please send them to me? Your suggestions and feedback are always welcome and appreciated!
See you all at lessons this week!
Patricia
